Do Affirmations Work? |
Posted: September 15, 2012 |
Do affirmations really work? Here's my 2 cents on that...yes and I'm not sure. How's that for being helpful?:) 1. It's like the placebo effect in one way. They work if we think they work. There is incredible power that lies within us. So when we say yes to affirmations they can definitely work. I've seen it. However, I do believe the secret lies more in the allowing and receiving end. [That's another blog, tho.] hmmm...getting kinda intense for a Saturday... 2. If what I focus on expands, then I'd rather focus on "all is well" or "I believe I can" than "why bother" or "I'm so stupid'. That's a no-brainer, to me. Do I always do it? Let's say I'm working on it... Boil it down and I see 2 big factors that we CAN impact: awareness and habits. Becoming aware is the first key. It astounds me how much negative self talk infiltrates our lives. It's everywhere, which is why we don't even hear it half the time. Y'no, like eating standing up or on the run - we like to pretend those calories don't count. Inner selk talk is like that. Which brings me to habits. Some of the negatiity was taught and internalized, and some is just a habit! We don't necessarily believe it, but it's what we've always done, so we keep doing it. Let's say you spill something; what do you say to yourself? Clumsy, I knew that would happen... What if you said, "how unlike me to do that"? aha....changes things, doesn't it? Start to listen to yourself. Become aware. [no judging allowed; just awareness] Replace the negativity with positive affirmations. Create new habits with these new thoughts. Then one day the butterfly will emerge. And you will realize it is you. Always was. Always was.
