Fears – A Good or Bad Thing? |

Fears – Good or bad? Fears are designed to protect us. Sometimes that which protects us ends up hurting us, yes? Example: If you had a bad experience with dogs as a child, [you were bitten] your mind may cause you to be afraid of any dog or any dog situation. [Even though the chances of having the same negative experience twice are small, your mind is set to protect.] The subconscious mind is quite something-- it acts like a computer and will link similar things together (i.e. going to a park and getting bitten by a dog) so anything resembling the dog experience will be classified as a “danger, Will Robinson!” You may not even be consciously aware of this linking process, yet the next time you find yourself in a park or in nature and you see a dog, guess what happens? Trouble. Here’s the takeaway: There may not be any trouble at all, but since one of the jobs of the subconscious mind is to keep us safe, it will signal trouble anyhow. That very sight of a dog will be just as powerful to your mind as the time you were originally bitten. It’s good our minds have this capability, so we don’t get hurt twice. But many times the programming becomes a problem as it fails to reflect our current situation accurately. The dog doesn’t always mean trouble. Until we are aware of the program playing, and do something to change it, we will avoid people, animals and/or situations which our subconscious minds have labeled as trouble.
