South Carolina’s Red Bluff Plantation offers rich history as well as significant opportunity for real estate development. Historical research suggests that Native Americans frequented the property 15,000 years ago, and maps from the year 1600 note that it was at that time home to European settlers. In 1685, William Gravely built the first home on the site that is now Red Bluff Plantation.
During the U.S. Civil War, Confederate general Robert E. Lee established Fort Drayton on the site. Records show that a skirmish between Union and Confederate forces took place there. In the early 1900s, Elbridge Gale purchased the property. The Gale family dwelt on the plantation land until 2011, when it was purchased by American Timberlands Company.
Today, Red Bluff Plantation is one of the last pristine plantation properties on the east coast of South Carolina. Due to its proximity to Savannah, Georgia, and Interstate 95, the property offers significant potential for residential or resort development.
