For over a decade, Norm Gretzinger has served as managing director of EG Capital in New York City. Also the cofounder of this private equity firm, he manages all aspects of its investments, from deal sourcing to execution. Every year, he reviews hundreds of potential investments to determine the best opportunities for his firm. Moreover, Norm Gretzinger chairs many of his portfolio companies and provides hands-on guidance in establishing strategy and enhancing value. Businesses that have benefited from his guidance include Waterpik and Del Monte Canada. His achievements with the latter company led to significant increases in profits and the paying out of three major dividends before it was sold to ConAgra Foods.
To prepare for his career, Norman Gretzinger attended the University of Alberta. The recipient of the Peter Lougheed Leadership Award, he obtained a bachelor of commerce. Subsequently, he enrolled at Columbia Law School and was editor of its Law Review before earning a juris doctor.
After graduating, Norm Gretzinger joined Sullivan & Cromwell as a general practice associate. His responsibilities included advising clients such as a global mining company and financial services firms on matters ranging from debt financing to mergers and acquisitions. Following this period, Norman Gretzinger served as the head of North American consumer mergers and acquisitions for JP Morgan Chase for seven years before starting EG Capital.
