Muhammed Akil is an accomplished organizational leader and political strategist who serves as executive director of the Parent Coalition for Excellent Education (PC2E). A statewide advocacy group with headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, PC2E is driven by fundamental mission to “empower, mobilize, and strengthen” the voices of parents and fight for improved education policies in every community that it serves. Before assuming his current position in 2015, Muhammed Akil worked for more than 12 years with the City of Jersey City, ultimately becoming chief of staff for Mayor Steven Fulop. This position placed Mr. Akil in charge of operations in 14 major municipal departments and agencies.
Muhammed Akil also serves New Jersey communities as the founder of More Than a Race, an educational organization that exposes inner-city youths to a traditional camping environment. His accomplishments within the realm of political strategy include a prominent role in the 2016 election sweep for Newark’s Unity slate of school board candidates.
