As the chief technology officer for Jawbone, Michael Luna has built an intellectual property portfolio over more than a 1000 that has been independently valued in the range of several 100 of million dollars. In leading innovation and technology strategies for Jawbone, Michael Luna focuses on research and intellectual property protection. Previously, he served as chief technology officer for Seven Networks, Inc. and as chief technology officer for Openwave Systems, Inc.
A graduate of Troy High School in Fullerton, California, Mr. Luna served in the Navy, studying communications, electronics, and nuclear power. He then joined Beckman Instruments, first as an electronics technician and later moved to the engineering and research department. As an apprentice under Beckman’s chief engineer, he gained valuable hands-on experience in multi-processor and control system design, chemical analysis through pH and photometric methods, and network design. A former member of the International Council of Systems Engineers, and he has held various leadership positions in Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and WAP Forum, including serving as chairman of the WAP Forum Interoperability Executive Committee and of the OMA Mobile Web Services Group. Michael has a strong technical background in telecommunications, biomedical engineering and consumer electronics.
