Skilled choral vocalist with a range of tenor to baritone, Leo Kan has spent years training in classical piano performance and choral direction. Serving with some of the finest schools and programs in the world, Leo Kan’s extensive experience enables him to function as a skilled instructor, leading many students to success through public performance.
Trained in classical piano through Trinity College London, Leo Kan followed his Associate degree by enrolling in Cornell University’s School of Arts & Sciences to pursue his Bachelor’s degree. Part of his music training at Cornell, Kan earned his Licentiate from the Royal Schools of Music by performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, Dallapiccola, and Messiaen during the evaluation. Graduating magna cum laude, he was also a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar and joined the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Changing focus from piano to choral performance, Leo Kan followed his Bachelor’s degree in Music by pursuing his Master’s degree with the University of Indiana Bloomington’s own Jacobs School of Music, specializing in choral direction with a minor in organ performance. During his affiliation with the Jacobs School, Kan was active in many music performance groups, serving as accompanist, rehearsal accompanist, assistant conductor, and conductor for the Indiana University Pro Arte Singers, Motet Choir, and Indiana University All-Campus Choir, and he conducted sessions of the Indiana AGO Choral Festival.
