The Blue Moon Hotel, named one of New York's Best 100 Little Hotels by the Rizzoli International Press, is conveniently located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The hotel offers luxury accommodations in an immigrant tenement building that has been transformed into an architecturally stunning renovation. In 2000, artist Randy Settenbrino purchased the Blue Moon Hotel with the intention of creating an Art Nouveau boutique hotel that charmingly blends historical details with modern amenities.
Objets d’art, a source of inspiration and catalyst to design, were painstakingly reworked and reintegrated in a painterly style. Fastidious attention to detail culminates in Settenbrino’s “bricks and mortar masterpiece.” A path of reconfigured mosaics, a weathered yet elegant soapstone sink on decorative legs enjoys a second life as a planter; a 1920s Coca-Cola icebox serves as a pedestal. An 1880s stove is now a coffee station; bars and front desk are formed from transoms, banisters, and spindles; walls are decked with a ubiquitous ocean of oak wainscoting capped by marble mantelpieces. A massive collection of cards, circa 1895-1912, delight and entertain visitors with wholesome playful images.
Guests of the Blue Moon Hotel find that the surrounding Lower East Side neighborhood is rich with historical attractions, entertainment options, and fine dining.
