Delhi has several monuments, archaeological structures and shrines to attract the travellers. The distance from Delhi to Katra, a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, is about 625 km from Delhi. Nestled in the lap of the Trikuta Mountains, Katra is situated approximately 42 km from Jammu and is a major stop-over for tourists visiting Vaishno Devi Temple. Katra has many sightseeing destinations. They include Bhairon Temple, Banganga River, Darshani Darwaza, Charanpaduka, Adhkunwari, Himkoti, Sanjichhat, Jhajjar Kotli and Baba Dhansar Temple. It is believed that the darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi is not complete without darshan at Bhairon temple. Katra is well connected to Delhi by air, rail and Road. There is an airport in Jammu. There are regular flights from Delhi to Jammu by Air India, Jet Airways and Go Air. The flight takes nearly 90 minutes to reach the destination.
There are several daily trains from Delhi to Jammu, which is the nearest railhead to Katra. Among them are Pune-Jammu Tavi Express (No.11077), Indore-Jammu Tavi Malwa Express (No.12919), New Delhi-Jammu Tavi Shalimar Express (No.14645), New Delhi-Jammu Tavi Rajdhani Express (No.12425), New Delhi-Udhampur Uttar Sampark Kranti Express (No.12445), Delhi-Udhampur Jammu Mail (No.14033), New Delhi-Jammu Tavi Express (No.12413) and Tata Nagar-Jammu Tavi Express (No.18101). Besides, there are several direct trains to Jammu, which runs on certain days of the week. Rajdhani Express takes only nine hours to reach Jammu from Delhi. Other trains take ten to 11 hours to reach destination. The tourists coming by air or rail can take a bus or taxi cab from Jammu to travel to Katra. The journey by bus from Delhi to Katra takes around 12 hours. While non-a/c bus charges a fare of Rs.450, A/c bus and Volvo charge a fare of Rs.800 and Rs.900 respectively for travelling from Delhi to Katra. Taxi fare ranges from Rs.11 to Rs.25 per kilometre depending on the type of vehicle. Road route passes through (with kilometres from Delhi) Panipat (86 km), Karnal (121 km), Pipili (152 km), Ambala (201 km), Khanna (273 km), Ludhiana (314 km), Jalandhar (373 km), Mukerian (441 km), Kathua (505 km), Samba (549 km), Jammu (584 km) and Katra (631 km). Route has several petrol pumps, dhabas, small restaurants and rest houses. Journey by taxi cab takes around 11 hours to travel from Delhi to Katra.
