Different Modes of Transport from Pune to Tirupati
Pune is an industrial city, popularly called the ‘Oxford of the East’ due to the presence of top notch educational institutions and research facilities. Pune, the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra, is located at the confluence of Mula and Mutha Rivers and is where Chathrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born. Tirupati, one of the most significant pilgrimage centres in India, is famous for the temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara and draws millions of pilgrims every year and is one of the wealthiest temples in the world. Pune lies at a distance of 960 km from Tirupati. The time taken to cover this distance on road is 14 hours and 50 minutes. Both Pune and Tirupati have airports. There are no direct flights between the two cities. One will have to fly to Hyderabad first and then take a direct flight to Tirupati. The cost of the flight is not only costly but the transit time between the two flights is quite long. Flying from Pune to Tirupati is not a feasible option. The NH 9 connects Pune to Tirupati. One gets to pass through towns like Kadappa, Adoni and Bijapur on this highway. Being a major highway, there are numerous petrol pumps at regular intervals all along the way. Some of them are open 24 hours and offer clean restrooms also. Many restaurants and hotels are also available on the highway. Not many people would prefer to drive in your own car as the travel is tiring. However, one can hire a taxi. For a return journey a taxi will cost from Rs. 18000 to Rs. 25000. This is the best way of transport if travelling with elders and small children. One can also make pit stops at Bijapur for a little sightseeing as well.
Bus services are available on this route. Both state transport buses and private buses have their buses plying from Pune to Tirupati. Some of the private operators are Sai Travels, SRS Travels, VRL Travels and KPN Travels. The most convenient are the overnight sleeper buses from Pune to Tirupati. Other than these, government run interstate buses are also available from Pune Central Bus Stand to Tirupati Bus Stand. The most convenient way of reaching Tirupati from Pune is by train. Trains depart from Pune Junction and terminate at Tirupati Railway Station. The Dadar Chennai Egmore Express (12163), Mumbai CSTM Chennai Mail (11027), Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Express (11043), Mumbai CSTM Nagercoil Express (16351), Mumbai CST- Chennai (11041), and Mumbai CSTM Kanniyakumari (16381) are some of the express trains connecting Tirupati and Pune. Trains are best suited while travelling with kids and elders. Tickets are available from any railway reservation counter or from the IRCTC portal online.
