Wiley X has been producing glasses since 1987 and is one of the world leaders in protective eyewear. Touted as ‘Born on the Battlefield’ this innovative company has been producing glasses which exceed occupational safety standards for 3 decades. A family run firm, with humble beginnings the Wiley X brand is now synonymous with reliability and durability. The glasses and lenses that they produced are used by military departments in the US and Europe and they use the most cutting-edge technology and testing standards to ensure the safety of those who wear them. Their lenses offer maximum impact resistance for occupational, combat and a variety of sports – when you are wearing Wiley X you know that you are protected. In this article we will be looking at some of the most popular Wiley X sunglasses on the market. These will include the Wiley X Titan, Wiley X Gravity, and the Wiley X Sabre. All the lenses and frames are military grade ballistic tested, and you can decide for yourself which one would suit you best by discovering the exceptional protection provided by Wiley X glasses. Wiley X Titan: Climate Control Perfection The Wiley X Titan is part of the Wiley X Climate Control range which includes both Sport and Outdoor collections and is manufactured to protect your eyes from weather and debris during fast paced activities. The range is fitted with a removable Facial Cavity Seal which works to prevent dust and debris from entering the eye area. For those of you with Dry Eye Syndrome, it also works to prevent dehydration and eye irritation caused by outdoor activities. If you don’t need the foam gasket you can always remove it, but it is so comfortable we don’t think you will want to. The Wiley X Titan can accept a higher prescription than many of the Wiley X frames. The lenses are Wiley X Selenite™ polycarbonate lenses which provide 100% protection from sunlight including UVA and UVB rays. The Wiley X Titan best fits larger head sizes and is tested to Wiley X typically high standards. The Wiley X Titan can withstand a high velocity and high mass impact test, ensuring your eyes stay safe. The lenses have a T-Shell™ coating which reduces scratches on the lenses and can help to increase the length of time that you have your glasses. These are the top frames amongst bikers, but they are also perfect for those who fish, ski or generally just enjoy being outdoors and living their life to the max. The frame width is 141mm with a temple length of 125mm. Each of the wrap-around lenses are 72mm wide with a height of 40mm and a bridge of 21mm. Wiley X Gravity: Comfortable and Cool The Wiley X Gravity sunglasses have a smaller frame than the Wiley X Titan and therefore are best suited to small to medium head sizes. This frame is also fitted with the Removal Foam gasket which will ensure a tight fit to your face and makes it perfect to keep out irritants from the eye area. Like the Wiley X Titan, the Wiley X Gravity is fitted with T-Shell™ coated lenses which are anti scratch and ideal for those working or playing outdoors in tough environments. The Wiley X Gravity can also accept higher prescriptions up to a +/-6.00. It takes a bit to excite us here at Safety Protection Glasses, but we can always get on board with a Wiley X frame and the Gravity is no different. The comfort rating of the Wiley X Gravity is off the charts, helped by the foam gasket which provides extra padding. The light frame is also easy to wear for long periods of time and there are no pressure points from the temple ends or bridge that might cause headaches or leave red marks when you least need them. The polarized lenses are excellent at cutting glare and the contrast provided is incredible, the colour definition is worth the extra pennies. With the right combination of lens colour and polarization you can cut through driving rain to see the road and what is coming up. With a wraparound frame style, you have a large viewing area but with a covered side shield area to prevent light from getting in and distracting you. The ends of the glasses are fitted with rubber tips and will bend to your head shape to keep them firmly (but not too firmly!) in place. The Wiley X glasses are all supplied with a hard case, strap, and cleaning cloth. Wiley X Saber: Ahead of the Game?
The Wiley X Saber is a popular choice of Wiley X frame amongst airsofters, mainly because of the military grade lenses that come as standard but there are several other features that lend themselves well to this sport. The Saber is a wrap-around frame which provides protection from both the front and the side should it be needed. This protection from bad weather, projectiles, and generally everything else has made this frame a go-to choice for airsofters. The Wiley X Saber comes with interchangeable lenses meaning you can have more than one set and they can be changed quickly and easily should you need to. The light rust lenses are perfect for low light conditions (especially if you live in the UK), the smoke grey lenses provide glare reduction and if you need to you also have a pair of clear lenses to use for very low light conditions or if you simply don’t need the sunglasses version at all. The Saber frame has removable temple arms which are then replaced with a strap called a ‘Tactical strap’ – this is very useful if you need your glasses to stay put in one place while you are running around. The one-piece lens is made from Wiley X formulated Selenite™ polycarbonate which is shatterproof and provides great protection. The lens technology also provides additional optical clarity which means there are no distortions in the lens piece. The Wiley X Saber is available as a prescription with an RX insert which is available separately and will ensure that you keep those MIL spec lenses in place. The nosepiece of the Wiley X Saber is removable and can be adjusted so that it will fit any nose shape. Wiley X also provides additional frame parts in case you should drop it and need a new one. The Wiley X Saber is fitted with a foam brow bar which provides a low profile should you be wearing a helmet or anything else. The brow bar can also be removed but many people have mentioned how good it is at keeping sweat out of your eyes during airsoft The Wiley X Saber is stamped with both EN166 and ANSI Z87+ on the temple arms and the lenses so you can be sure of what you are getting. Conclusion Whichever frame you should choose from Wiley X you can rest assured that it will exceed all of your expectations in terms of your normal safety glasses. Reasonably priced with a great selection for all kinds of outdoor sports, combat situations, regular occupational jobs, and kids glasses, this glasses manufacturer is hard to beat. Wiley X not only protects you where it should, but it looks the part, after all, Wiley X have been making safety cool for three decades!
