What do You Think? |

What do You Think? It's been said we become what we think about. Ok, so it follows then, that if I change my thoughts, I can change my world, yes? If you believe that [and I do], the $64,000 question is, "what are you thinking about?" And more importantly, "how often do you think that thought?" I found myself sitting in my tub today, feeling a huge wave of pain as I thought about my "wonderful" marriage and the years of sacrifice and suffering. [I can really be quite the martyr.] One part of me said. " These thoughts are destructive! Stop now!" Aother voice said, "But it was just so many years of abuse, and I need time to express it and process it! I'm caring for that hurt little girl." Then I posited a mind shift question to both voices...what if this wasn't pain, but just a habitual thought? As I pondered that question, I realized the pain was over a long time ago. It was still a memory, but not actually my current reality. I was reliving a past that no longer existed, out of my thinking habits. In that moment I saw I could "think pain" or I could think something that felt better. [That choice always is there for us, by the way. ] Why does a rational person stay in pain? For the payoff. People will now see how bad I was hurt. I don't have to take responsibility. I'm safe because this is familiar. I can't make a mistake if I don't do anything. It wasn't my fault. We convinced ourselves this payoff "feels better" and outweighs the pain, BUT IT DOESN'T. So what are you thinking and do you want to keep thinking it?
