Are six pack abs an elusive goal? OK, I'm going to get straight to the point. The truth about six pack abs is that no matter how many crunches/sit-ups or other ab exercises you do, you won't see so much as a "two pack" unless you're willing to change your diet. The abdominal area happens to be a tricky region. Most of us tend to store fat there and it's one of the most stubborn places to lose fat. You could do tons of ab exercises and develop a nice layer of underlying abdominal muscle, but you'll never see it until you get rid of the belly fat. Hence, the dietary changes. The key is to reduce body fat through a reduced calorie diet, weight training and cardio. Today's focus is on diet and I want to share my top three tips. The body acts a though no more food is available and tries to conserve what it has by going into " starvation mode". When in starvation mode, the brain tells the body to retain body fat (the last thing that we want) and our bodies also start to burn the protein in our muscles for energy when the supply of carbohydrates begins to run low. 2) Keep Your Metabolism on Cruise Control: Eating one small meal (i.e., 300-400 calories) every three hours will help keep your metabolism percolating nicely. Your body uses calories to digest food, and the more often you digest, the more you burn. Each meal should be at least 60% fruit and vegetables (preferably raw), with a small portion of unrefined, complex carbs (e.g. whole grains, ) and a bit of low fat protein. 3) Skip the "White" Foods: - white rice, pasta,white bread, white flour, refined sugar. These foods have almost no nutritional value, cause insulin spikes, and trigger increased storage of fat. Try the whole wheat or whole grain versions. Scale back the sugar and replace it with small amounts of raw honey, when possible. I know that making dietary changes isn't easy, but if you stick with it you can replace bad eating habits with good ones.
