Avoiding going to the dentist and not maintaining good oral hygiene can cause some minor but also some great dental problems. The thing is, many of those problems are really annoying and some of them are also really hard to treat even though they are not that serious. Let’s take a look at what bothers most of the people out there. Calculus
When a layer of bacteria and plaque stays on our teeth for far too long we start to notice layers of hard substance called calculus. Once calculus is noticed on teeth, it should be removed as soon as possible because it will only cause some other problems and help plaque stay attached to your teeth. The process of removing is cheap, simple, short and most importantly, painless, so why are people avoiding to get rid of it? It seems that people have a bigger problem - not being responsible towards their teeth. Bad breathBad breath can be caused by various factors such as tonsillitis, bacteria in the mouth, rotten teeth, inflamed gums and even ulcer. Bad breath is only an indicator that something is not functioning right in your organism - you just need to follow the signs your body is sending and you will find the source of your problems. Ulcer is curable, and some medications can help you ease the pain and other symptoms such as bad breath. Tonsillitis, on the other side is slightly different. If it is chronic, then you might want to consider removing your tonsils surgically because they are not serving their purpose if they are constantly giving you trouble. All that is left is to maintain good oral hygiene and visit your dentist regularly and you won’t be bothered by this annoying problem again.
Cavities
If you are not taking good care of your teeth, then you shouldn’t expect them to be healthy forever. Too many candies, carbonated drinks, alcohol, cigarettes and poor hygiene will lead you to developing cavities on your teeth. Not only that they are painful, but they can also ruin your tooth beyond repair - that is if you wait for far too long. Just think logically, is it worse to endure a minor procedure or lose a tooth? I think that I made my point here. Plus, cavities can cause inflammations that can even be a threat to the rest of your bod, not just your oral cavity. Gingivitis
If you have the impression that you have a toothache but your teeth are flawless, then the cause might be inflamed gums or gingivitis. Severe pain while you are chewing food and especially sweets, excruciating pain when you drink cold or warm drinks and bleeding gums are all signs that there is something wrong with your mouth, and if this is a newly developed condition that you never noticed before, we are probably talking about gingivitis here. According to Dr. Han, one of the main causes of gingivitis is inappropriate oral hygiene, as this condition is a response to too much plaque. It is really important that you treat gingivitis if you don’t want it to progress to some dangerous gum disease such as periodontitis. There are various medicines in form of gels and creams that can help you fight gingivitis. Oral ulcers
It is not yet clear what causes oral ulcers that can be located on our tongue or anywhere on the mucous membrane and gums. But one thing is certain - they are really painful and irritating. Some dentists claim that they are also caused by poor oral hygiene and sometimes even by touching your teeth or tongue with hands that weren’t washed previously. Even if these ulcers will disappear after a couple of days on their own, you can accelerate this process by using an antiseptic mouthwash and prevent these little sore wounds from getting additionally inflamed. To sum it up, most of these little problems can be solved if we choose to act quickly and if we are persistent enough. Being responsible towards your body can help you prevent some bigger health problems and this counts for oral problems as well.
