In late February, I wrote an article for a client entitled “Best Beers For Rock Concerts.” Utilizing the research I did for that article, I posted an article on Storeboard.com on March 13 about the best winter beers. Here’s that article.
Today, I am posting an article about the best summer beers, which is also the result of the research that I did for the article on best beers for rock concerts. I even found the same drawing of Homer Simpson with beer in his right bicep that I used for the winter beer story.
As I did on March 13, I am admitting that I don’t like beer, don’t drink beer, and don’t know anything about beer. I’m a juice man and would prefer writing an article on juice. However, my winter beer article got 204 views, which is a pretty high total for a blog on Storeboard.com. Consequently, I am posting an article on summer beers for the benefit of Storeboard’s readers, who I’m sure will appreciate the fact that I really did spend a couple of hours researching the topic before deciding that this Men’s Health article was the best source.
Without further ado, here are the 12 best summer beers, according to Men’s Health magazine. The quoted comments are all part of the magazine article.
Harpoon Summer: “Harpoon Summer tastes like a light lager, without the funky copper aftertaste of most mass-market brews.”
Victory Summer Love: “This crowd-pleaser eschews the spice and fruit flavors of Belgian and German wheat ales for clean bready malts and crisp citrus hops.”
Southern Tier Hop Sun: “Brewed with three types of malts, Southern Tier’s Hop Sun is a light, crisp American Wheat Ale.”
Deschutes Twilight Ale: “The amber ale is also light enough to drink when (you) already (have) a stomach full of brats and burgers.”
Brooklyn Summer: “Brooklyn’s summer offering tastes as good as a seventh-inning stretch feels and doesn’t bog you down with too much yeast or hops.”
21st Amendment Bitter American: “It's hard to get a beer with more bang for your booze, and the ability to drink it from an icy can without losing flavor just makes the refreshment that much more remarkable.”
Crispin Light Cider: “It does deliver a delightfully tart cider that is an exceptional change of pace on a hot day. Crispin recommends serving it with a lemon.”
Leinenkugels Summer Shandy: “It’s lighter than most summer ales, making it a crisp, refreshing option perfect for slugging beside the pool or at the club house after the back nine.”
Dogfish Head Festina Peche: “All (the) sugar is gone by the time the delightful beer hits your lips, giving you the summery fruitiness without any cloying sweetness.”
Anchor Summer: “If you like a wheat beer that doesn’t taste like you’ve inhaled half the nation’s supply of amber waves of grain, pop the cap on this San Fran’s brewers beer.”
Narragansett Summer Ale: “This smooth and flavorful blonde ale packs a juicy, floral hop character without the bitterness of a pale ale.”
Lancaster Kolsch: “It's a fantastic warm-weather brew, out May through September in kegs, as well as cans by the earthy-looking cardboard 12-pack.”
