Warehouse guard rails do not get the love that they should. They are an important part of a safety program for a lot of businesses. However, only for those businesses that know that they need them. How they get to this point of knowing is unknown. There is a movement from wondering what you need and actually getting what you need. Therefore, you may want to know about this product before you need it so that you can get it earlier than those who have it now.
Bollards and guard rails fit the same area. It is true, however, it is true that many businesses make use of both. A bollard may provide more of true stopping power as it relates to runaway or mishandled forklifts. In fact, you might find the use of guard rails more commonly around a conveyor belt. Yet, you may be able to use your guard rails to protect your pallet racks, employees, or anything else you deem appropriate.
You may wonder what these guard rails are built of if they are going to protect your equipment or people. The truth is that most of these guard rails are made of 11 gauge steel. The grade of steel is relatively strong and it can handle a decent amount of impact. More than what the picture may lead you to believe. Of course, you should always check the construction of the guard rails with the seller or the manufacturer to figure out how much the system can handle. A good thing to know before it needs to absorb a contact.
You want your guard rails to be able to handle, at least, slow-moving with forklifts. Why? Pallet racks are strong and they hold a lot of product. In fact, common forms of these industrial storage systems hold up to 2500 lbs per level. No one wants that amount of product to fall on them or any of their employees. Subsequently, protecting yourself and/or your employees from having to face those situations is a very good thing to do.
The size of the guard rails can vary based on your needs. Many can go as high as 120". You should be able to find someone who can custom make a guard rail for you if you really need to have one made. Keep in mind that you still have to deal with your local government. It pays to take a look at their rules and regulations when you tell the company about your needs. The best thing to do is to get it right before you get it so that you do not have to send it back and get it modified. Modification and waiting times can waste a lot of time and money. Might as well avoid all that by keeping the regulations in mind before you get the guard rail for the first time.
If you can keep all that in mind then you are going to get a guard rail that will do the job you need it to do. You will also have it legal where you are and you will not get in trouble for using it. Most of all you should take a look at your local laws to make sure you have a clear understanding of what you need to do in order to have your warehouse in good working order.
