'Flyering' or 'Leafleting' is a marketing process which is becoming increasingly more familiar in town centre shopping centres. Employees are given a large stock of leaflets which have been specifically designed in order to advertise a particular business. They are then instructed to stand in chosen locations in order to hand them out to shoppers in the town. The idea is that, simply by being out in a shopping centre, most people are potential customers who might be interested in the advertised services.
Another way of 'leafleting' is to put leaflets through the letter boxes of residential homes (depending on what you are offering) in the immediate area to your shop, business or restaurant.
How to organise a successful flyering or leafleting campaign
Ensure that your employees are handing out the leaflets in a place which is close to your store. Most people will not look at the leaflets for very long and most business will be generated impulsively. Use your most enthusiastic employees. Remember that they will be representing your business so they should be warm and welcoming. They should also be experienced, in order to answer any questions which anybody has. Use trusted employees. If you incentivise employees by saying they can go home once they have handed out all the leaflets, remember that this might simply encourage them to abandon leaflets or hand out more than one per person. Try to avoid littering the area. Some people will simply drop their leaflets on the ground and, if there is too much littering, there is a risk that a bad feeling might be generated against your organisation.
