How We Got Started

Born and raised on the east coast, Jim stumbled across Aspen, Colorado on a cross-country bike tour. Jim was the former head guide and manager for Colorado Riff Raft for 9 years. In 2004 he decided it was time to start his own company—AWR. While staying busy running his company, Jim is still enjoying guiding whitewater rafting in the summer and ski patrolling in Aspen in the winter.

We are a small, tight-knit organization whose philosophy is for the employees to have as much fun as possible while providing an outstanding, safe experience for our guests.

Customer Can Expect

AWR will provide all the necessary on-river gear for all our trips – splash tops / bottoms, fleece, booties, PFDs (personal flotation devices), wetsuits and helmets when appropriate. We provide transportation from our shop to and from the river as well as pickups in and around the Aspen -Snowmass area. A make-your-own-sandwich lunch or snack of cookies, juice boxes and water are served on all of our Roaring Fork rafting trips. Prices do not include a 10% user fee.
