| Shop Defit |
A shop defit—also known as a retail defit or make-good strip-out—is the process of restoring a commercial space to its initial shell condition following the end of a tenancy agreement. This involves the removal of tenant-installed elements such as shelving, counters, signage, floor coverings, partitions, storefronts, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems. The objective is to leave a clean, empty ''white box'' ready for the next tenant or fit-out. The process may also include disconnecting and safely removing services (power, water, data), minor repairs to the structure, and waste disposal or recycling in line with regulatory and lease requirements. |
