1 Temples
Hong Kong is littered with temples, the oldest of which is Man Mo Temple, where you can experience a main hall full of spiral shaped incense coils that are burned as offerings by worshipers. Or, visit the Po Lin Buddhist monastery and temple complex, and see the tallest seated bronze Buddha statue in the world.
2 Culture
Hong Kong boasts a dynamic cultural landscape, mixing ancient Chinese ways of life with a contemporary culture that’s engulfing the city’s restaurants and arts scene. Here you can practice tai chi at dawn, catch a traditional Chinese opera performance, and head to Wong Chuk Hang for the latest in contemporary art.
3 Nightlife
Head to Lan Kwai Fong, where nightlife in the city congregates. The area is full of open-air bars and clubs and where you can catch a live jazz performance, or go salsa dancing till dawn. Or, visit Sai Ying Pun and hang out in specialist gin bars with a hip crowd.
4 Victoria Peak
Take the Peak Tram to the top of Victoria Peak and enjoy one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island. As well as an amazing view of the metropolis and its surrounding landscapes, here you can experience one of the earliest forms of transport in Hong Kong, dating back over a century.
5 Skyline
Enjoy one of the finest city skylines in the world by taking the Star Ferry to Kowloon, returning at night to see the skyline lit up like a Christmas tree. Stay on dry ground and you could take the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade and enjoy uninterrupted city views.
6 Rooftops
Hong Kong has some of the tallest buildings in the world, including the International Commerce Centre or ICC building, boasting a 360-degree indoor observation deck on the 100th floor, plus the highest bar in the world, the Ozone Bar at the Ritz-Carlton, on the 118th floor.
7 Walking
To escape the city, take the Dragon’s Back walking trail for breathtaking views of bays, fishing villages and beaches. Visit the Hong Kong Wetland Park, and you could follow nature trails through wetland ecosystems. Alternatively, take the Hong Kong Trail, a 50 kilometre walking route right from Victoria Peak.
8 Shopping
From high-end boutiques on Star Street, to the famous Temple Street Night Market, and antique shops along Hollywood Road, Hong Kong is a shopaholic’s dream. Head to PMQ, a 1950’s housing complex, the Police Married Quarters, and discover a hub for independent designers and creatives.
9 Food
In Hong Kong you can eat dim sum in traditional Chinese tea houses, take British high tea at 19th century hotels, and visit contemporary craft breweries, all in one afternoon. And all across the city you will find contemporary Bao bars and American-Chinese fusion diners with queues out the door.
10 Art
Hong Kong is quickly turning old warehouses into contemporary galleries, and old shopping hubs like Cat Street now house exciting new art spaces. Wong Chuk Hang is an arts hub in Hong Kong, with innovative galleries, including the Blindspot gallery, housed in a renovated laundry facility.
