Situated in the Deccan Plateau, Hyderabad has a history of over 500 years. Hyderabad, located on the banks of Musi River, is known as the City of Pearls. The name ‘Hyderabad’ had its origin in an affair between the ruler Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah and a local courtesan named Bhagmati. The ruler named the city Bhagyanagar after her. After the courtesan converted to Islam and took the name of ‘Hyder Mahal’ he named the city Hyderabad. Charminar is the star attraction in Hyderabad and is synonymous with the place. The towers of Charminar rise to a height of 48.7 metre above ground. From the top of minarets, one will get a panoramic view of Hyderabad city. Among the other major attractions in Hyderabad are Mecca Masjid, Jama Masjid, Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Nizam's Museum, Purani Haveli, Salar Jung Museum and Toli Masjid. The distance from Hyderabad to Bangalore is around 600 km. Architectural landmarks, research institutions; natural lakes, gardens and parks make Bangalore a top destination of tourists from across the world. Flights take just over an hour to reach the destination. There are several direct trains running from Hyderabad to Bangalore. Some of the trains start from Secunderabad, which is only a few kilometre away from Hyderabad. The train journey takes about 13 hours. Tourist buses are available to travel from Hyderabad to Bangalore. Bangalore can be reached from Hyderabad on two national highways NH 47 and NH 17. The distance to reach destination through NH 17 route is only 568 km while the other route is longer by 52 km.
