The goddess Mookaambikaa is considered to be an expression of trigunas as described in Hindu mythology. The dome of the temple has been gilded with pure gold. It is believed that Lord Parashurama established this pilgrim center devoted to Goddess Parvati. In the middle of dense forest, this temple is located on the banks of a river. From this temple, the view of the Western Ghats is beautiful and tranquil. Pilgrims from all over south India, especially from Kerala, perform special pooja during Dusshera festival.

Mookaambikaa wildlife sanctuary, Arishna Gundi Waterfalls, Maravanthe beach and Jog falls are other popular tourist interest around this holy town.
