First Monday Trade Days may be a known event around East Texas, but that doesn't mean that it can't keep hundreds of hundreds of thousands of people from going to downtown Canton for 4 days every month. canton trade days is open from Thursday through Sunday, ahead of the First Tuesday of every month, hundreds of vendors set up shop offering a wide range of shopping opportunities.


It was first introduced more than century ago as a flea market , has since become home to some of the most fascinating, modern-day home furnishings, antiques and collectibles that can be purchased anywhere. Over the past 150 years, lots of things have changed in that Original First Monday Park; however, the genuine, intimate human interactions between vendors and customers are the reason they keep coming back.

According the the First Monday Trade Days website it is one of the oldest and largest continuously operating outdoor fleamarket of its kind in the United States.



According to those who are in those who trade on market sites, concept is that First Monday Trade Days started in the year 1850 when the circuit judge would make a trip to Canton on the 1st Monday of each month. Folks from all over the county came to the city to take part in court dealings. In the past, residents brought their own merchandise, whether it was livestock, produce as well as other objects of origin, to sell or trade. Then in 1965 First Monday outgrew the town's Town Square so it was relocated to present-day the grounds. And that was the end of it...


First Monday Trade Days is comprised of a range from private sellers. Chances are that, regardless of how many times you visit there, you'll never get to see all. This flea market is situated across hundreds of acres that offer more than 700,00 square feet for shopping.


The event on First Monday is free, but the majority of the parking facilities surrounding the trade fair grounds cost $5 to park.
