How to choose and use shin guards |

Shin guards are a type of protective equipment that is used to prevent lower leg injuries when playing certain sports. In some, as in the case of soccer, the regulation requires that all players on the field of play use them. But as with other types of protective equipment, MMA shin guards are only effective if used properly. If you know how to choose the right pair of shin guards and the correct way to use them, in order to obtain maximum protection, you will prolong your sports career.
1.- Measure your leg: Shin guards that don't fit you well can impede your athletic performance. They can also pose a danger, like shin guards that are too small for you will not completely cover your leg and will leave you open to physical impact, while those that are too large could cause you to trip and cause injury. Therefore, choosing the correct size is essential for good performance and safety.
It measures from 2 inches (5 centimeters) below the knee to just above the ankle joint. This is the area that the shin guards should cover and this measurement determines the ideal size for the shin guards.
2.- Choose the correct style: There are two main styles of shin guards, each offering unique levels of protection and flexibility.
Half shin guards. They usually consist of a protective plate inside a compression sleeve. They glide over the shin like a large stocking. This style offers more mobility, but less protection. They are generally recommended for more advanced players.
Shin guards with ankle protection. This style consists of a protective shield that is attached to the shin and has a pad that surrounds the ankle. They are generally recommended for younger or less experienced players because they offer more protection.
3.- Correctly accommodate the shin guards: Make sure they are centered on the shins and are not turned sideways. If your shin guards have ankle pads, they need to cover the bone sections on either side of your ankle. Make sure the shin guards are properly positioned before continuing or you risk serious injury.

4.- Put the stockings on the shin guards: The stockings not only cover the shin guards, but they also hold them in place. You will want stockings that fit your legs but are not too tight to cut off circulation. Pull your stockings up tight to make sure they fit enough. If part of the stockings covers your knees, fold it down to further secure the shin guards. Now you are ready to choose the right shin guards for you.
