If Life is a Car, What Gear Are You Driving In? |

If Life is a Car, What Gear Are You Driving In? Yay! ..game time, kids…it’s easy-breezy….imagine for a moment that your life is a car. Any color, any make as long as it’s a manual transmission. Got it? Now…
Ready for the optimum gear? It’s not first or fourth or heaven forbid, reverse. It’s neutral. Here’s why: neutral is not judging, labeling or assigning meaning to the ride. [did you notice how I just judged “reverse”?] Neutral lets you stop going in an insane direction. It is the starting point for your new direction. It’s a place of choice and thereby, power. When life is feeling unbalanced, mind and body are acting in disagreement. [A bit like driving with the emergency brake on…] But I can shift into neutral, breathe, and give myself the space to focus on who I want to be, not who I usually am. I can remind myself this “crazy” is a great opportunity [brilliantly disguised as a problem] to create a new experience….to signal my mind and body to work in agreement with my new now. Now I’m not saying to necessarily avoid the other gears. They are intertwined and all have their place. Can you go from first to fourth? Reverse to second? [You can, but I wouldn’t advise it. Sometimes that’s the problem…] This is more about optimizing your gears and your journey. Shifting into neutral might be something you want to try this week. Stressed? Angry? Unsure? Pop it into neutral, remove the old meaning you assigned to the person or situation, decide on a new meaning and start your trip all over. Opportunity awaits….
