Owning ahorse is a big responsibility. They are relatively high maintenance animals and also have a lot of capacity to get mentally afflicted by any amount of conditions. They are not weak however and if looked after well can grow up to be as majestic as they would be in the wild. In domesticating them we are taking them away from their natural habitats and lifestyles which is why it is of primary importance that they are kept in good shape physically. Here are some ways to make sure that your horse is physically fit all year around. Do an Annual ExaminationGetting a vet to examine your horse is a must that needs to happen regularly once a year. As soon as the money becomes a little harder than before to come by, most owners will give up the medical check-up without even thinking twice. You may think that since your horse is feeling fine it is not needed to go each year for a medical examination. Just like how people are recommended to get an annual check-up at the hospital routinely, horses too should see their vet at least once a year. They may seem to be completely healthy on the outside but your vet should be able to detect anything unusual and potentially harmful and treat itearly on.

They should have a clean environment that is regularly tended to and enough food and water to keep them going. You should also invest in horse rugs in case the temperature drops and they need to be kept warm. They can react quite adversely if not and fall ill if they are neglected. If they do fall ill you will have to spend a lot of money treating them. So you might as well take good care of them to avoid having to face huge medical bills later on. You will need to have a helping hand if you have more than one horse to take care of as well. Get Their Annual VaccinationsHorses are prone to catch certain conditions such as encephalomyelitis, influenza, rhinopneumonitis, tetanus or West Nile virus. Anyone of these can kill your horseif left unattended, so you need to make sure that they are given their yearly vaccinations on time. Give Them Quality FoodHorse need hay, also known as roughage, to stay healthy and fit. You will feel frustrated that the hay you buy at great expense disappears so fast but do not try to buy hay that is of cheap quality or think of getting low-end food like certain budget grain and commercial feed. They need to be fed healthy meals so that they can stay fit and healthy as well. These are some of the ways in which you can ensure that your horse stays fit always.
