Communications and media have emerged which has not benefited the advertising industry but also public relations. Today a brand needs to advertise as well as do PR to maintain its integrity. Ads will sell your product but pr will give your products and firms a standing and reputation in the market.
Regardless of what the brand is, it will need pr. In case of hospitality industry, pr works more than advertising per se. With the emergence of social media and internet, traditional methods of doing pr and advertising are declining to pave way for internet becoming the critic. The social media is the new platform where integration of buyers and supplier seem the be occurring. User generated content helps to know what the audience needs and wants. So if you happen to buy a restaurant or own one, do not think making the website, pamphlet and advertising will help you succeed and you do not need pr. Pr is essential. Pr is necessary to maintain the standing of the brand of food which you want to offer.
Why PR?
Firstly through ads, you sell what you making. By pr you tend to connect with your customers, know their likes and dislikes, their choices and preferences per se. By taking to them, by relating to them and connecting them through various media platforms , you cam archive. This simply increases the chance of brand loyalty. And once the customer become fully loyal, do you think you need anything else?
How to do this?
In order to build the brand through public relations, you need the balance of both traditional and new media which is the social media. The traditional media means interviewing the customers, talking to them, print while social media accounts for becoming visible online through website, podcasts, blogs. It is observed now that bloggers are gaining more importance than food experience on social media and websites. so get people to write about your food and service. Blogs help people relate they experience to another authentic one, it comes across as genuine rather than a journalist actually writing about it in print or somewhere. In a lot of cases, it is more trusted than any other source. Reviews on social media also become important.
Promotions, customer engagements, contents, giveaways etc are some other ways to indulge public. Good entertainment is another way of interactivity. Social networking through the prominent channels help you spread the word.
Hence a balance of both traditional and social media can be incorporated to maintain good public relations. Restaurants and the food industry have immense competition these days. So they run on not only good food, and service but good pR as well. Having said this, one can also follow a media plan or hire a pr firm to promote the brand in its initial stage, If you have the sufficient budget to promote the brand. They would be able to tell where to do what and when!
