Zen is not simply a state of mind reached after deep meditation; it is a way of life as well for, once you understand it, you tend to follow it further on in your life. Zen is the ability to see through things and focus on what really matters in life, your spiritual growth. If you decide to try living differently than you used to and follow some guidelines of zen teaching, you will notice your life changing for the better.
Don’t go on a diet Yes, you read it right: do not go on a diet. Dieting is difficult and people are often demotivated if they cannot make it. Instead, try changing the things you eat just a bit: opt for a veggie burger, make your own pizza at home, switch to brown sugar and rice… This way, you will not feel like you’re forcing yourself to diet, and you will feel better.
Balance you meals You have probably heard this advice before, but try combining it with the other things for the best results. Instead of skipping breakfast, having a light lunch and then eating a lot for dinner, eat three times a day and if you are hungry in between, eat an apple or a banana. If you crave sweets, just add honey to your fruit and enjoy healthy and sweet snack.
Move a bit more Everyone will tell you that losing weight requires exercise and not just diet. Now, the trick with zen approach to working out is in the understanding that you should start slowly. Many people feel motivated in the beginning and they set their goals too high, but this approach is slightly different than that. Whatever you feel like doing: just walking, jogging, swimming, aerobics, squats and push-ups; start with ‘small doses’. Simply 10-15 minutes every day set aside for your activity. However, you should do this every day, no excuses. If it rains and you don’t feel like walking, put on your jacket and take an umbrella. Being stubborn is a virtue when it comes to working out, you know.
Balance your exercise Once your body gets used to moving, add slight changes: without changing the rhythm or intensity, add 5 minutes to you routine. And you can keep adding 5 minutes every week until you reach 45 minutes. On the other hand, you can shorten the exercise time if you intensify your workout routine.
Remove junk food from your life completely As we mentioned before, you should eat more fruit every day instead of candy bars and sugar. Make your meals and snacks sweeter by adding honey, and avoid drinking sodas and juices. Make your own flavoured water and drink detox tea which will make you feel light and help you lose weight faster. Your life will be much more different than it used to be after a while, but you should be aware that this is a gradual process and not a sudden change visible after only a few days. Healthy lifestyle will inevitably lead to you looking and feeling much better than before.
