Posted: March 2, 2012 |
Are you a homeowner in North Carolina that has experienced Hail damage to your home recently? Do you have Roofing companies banging on your door everyday asking you to sign up to get a Free Roof or to let them check your home or building for Roof Hail damage? Here are a Few tips to make sure that you are not taken for a Ride and that you are also hiring a Real local Roofing company and not a Storm Chaser from another State preying on local customers for a quick payday. 1.) Ask the person coming to your door for Licensing, Liability Insurance and Workman's comp certificates. any contractor without proper insurance or workman's comp should not even be considered becasue if an accident happens on your property you can be sued 2.) Ask to see a copy of their driver's license as this is a good indication that they are from NC and also that they are providing their REAL name which can be important in the event they commit fraud against you. 3.) Ask them to provide you photos of the Hail damage or Wind damage they've viewed on your Roof so you can see proof before deciding to file an insurance claim. 4.) Ask for references: names and numbers of people in your area that have used their company to replace their roof recently, get at least 5. 5) If they ask for money up front before a claim is filed or a check is receive for any reason, slam the door in their face (politely..lol) Most Good Charlotte Roofing companies can start your job with No Money Down or will pick up the first check when the job starts. 6.) Find out what their Roofing warranty covers, if they provide one and for how long? Most good Roofing companies will have problem providing a 5 yr Labor warranty. Our company Room 2 Roof provides a 10 Yr Labor Warranty 7.) Make sure that their Roofing company is certified with the Major Shingle manufacturers as this will be a good indicator as to whether they take educating their staff seriously or not. This can also make or break your Shingle manufacturers warranty, if the roofing contractor is not installing the roof to the manufacturers specifications you may not have a valid warranty. 8.) Get it In Writing: Before any work is performed on your home make sure you get everything in writing down to the last nail of what is being done and what products are being used. Alot of unscrupulous Roofers will pull the old bait and switch on customers by giving them a lesser Quality Roof than what they've promised. when the materials are delived make sure you check it all before allowing them to install anything on your home or building. 9.) Did they promise to Pay your Deductible? If so, this is Insurance Fraud and can get you in alot of Hot water. While we all give discounts or pay referrals to customers we are not allowed to offer to pay your insurance deductible at all as this is fraud and illegal. 10.) You have 72 hours in North Carolina! You have 72 hours to get out of any signed agreement in NC, so if you're unsure of what you want to do, do not sign anything or do all of your homework on the company right away because after 72 hours the Roofing company will have a legal right to take you to court if you try to back out and may be awarded monies from your Insurance claim. Be sure to use your God given senses as well about the person or company you are dealing with, if you have that uneasy feeling in your gut GO WITH IT! There are many good local Roofing contractors in the Charlotte NC area, be sure to check with the BBB or Angie's list if you need one.
