10 Ways to Clean Timber Blinds |

If you want a natural and refined look for your space, then Timber are the classic pick. In fact, the first Venetian blinds brought to Europe from Persia were crafted from wood, so when you buy timber, you're getting the real deal. While blinds began being made in other materials by the mid-20th century, this was more a matter of economy over style. It was cheaper to manufacture blinds out of aluminum than wood, and since blinds were gaining popularity around offices worldwide, many companies got on board with budget-friendly mass produced alternatives. However, this didn't alter the durability and timeless style of wood blinds, which is one of the many benefits of wood blinds. In fact, other than the difference in price and the look, there wasn't a real difference in their functionality or upkeep - and in today's market, the there’s often no massive disparity between price-points.
But money is not usually an object for people who covet this look. One of the most common points of concern voiced from potential buyers has to do with cleaning. Rest easy: timber blinds are as easy to clean as any blind. To prove it, here are 10 ways to keep your timber blinds looking beautiful. 1) Soft Cloth Here's the easiest way to get a quick clean. Just use a soft cloth and run it over the top and bottom of each slat to remove dust. Voila! You’re done. 2) Lamb's Wool Another fast fix for dusty timber blinds. Super gentle on your blinds, a lambswool duster will act like a magnet for dust and dirt. 3) A Sock Simply put your hand in a soft sock and run it over and under each slat to slough off dirt and dust. Easy as that! 4) Use Soft Gloves You know those Magic Gloves that you can get for a buck or two at a dollar store? Grab a pair and go to town on your blinds. Run your index finger over the top of the slat and your thumb over to get a precise clean. 5) Add a Little Water Grab that soft sock or your Magic Gloves. Next, fill a bucket with two litres of warm water. Add a 1/4 cup of wood soap. Mix well. Put your sock or mitts on your hand, dip it in the water and squeeze any excess moisture out. (You want damp, not soaking wet!) Next, clean run the sock or your fingers over and under each slat until clean. Dry each slat with a lint-free soft cloth. 6) Oil and Vinegar Combine equal parts olive oil and vinegar in a bowl. Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the mixture, and clean each slat. Bonus: this mix is also a great way to get water stains out of wood. Just rub with the grain! 7) Vacuum You know that soft brush head on your vacuum that you never use? It's time has come! Use it to gently run over your blinds to remove any loose dirt or dust. This is also a great pre-wash step if you're planning to do a deeper clean with water and wood soap. 8) Dryer Sheet Yep! Running a dryer sheet along each slat is a great way to remove existing loose dust and prevent future grime and dust from settling. 9) Wood Oil Wood oil, like lemon oil, is specifically designed to clean wood, so there is no risk of it warping your beautiful timber blinds. 10) Coconut Oil What doesn't coconut oil do? Simply use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to rub it into your blinds (with the grain) to get a clean, polished look. This is also a great finishing treatment for any of the other cleaning options. But before you clean, it’s important to first read the manufacturer’s instructions. Some timber blinds may be composites as opposed to 100% wood. And again, pure wood can be finicky, so it’s always best to seek out your manufacturer’s advice.
