Brushing alone does not guarantee dental health. Even if you brush twice a day and do it gently and properly, you can still end up with the risks of tooth decay. While brushing is indeed importantly, it’s certainly not the only oral hygiene step to prevent the danger of a tooth decay. There are many other aspects as well equally important to keeping the tooth healthy and stronger. All of these oral hygiene steps are meant to be followed collectively so that the problem of tooth decay can be prevented. Let’s look at the many causes of the tooth decay - Lack of knowledge about tooth decay Most of us don’t know what may lead to a tooth decay. So, we end up relying only on regular brushing hoping all the dental problems to go away. We should know how a tooth decay is caused due to the mixture of food and bacteria. The bacteria in plaque go up to produce acid due to the sugars present in foods you eat. The acid then dents and weakens the enamel leading to tooth decay. Most of us are guilty of consuming too much sugar which ultimately becomes the cause of tooth decay. We forget that bacteria in plaque wait for sugars to form acids and attack the tooth enamel. Children in particular are more prone to such attacks as they can’t live without soda, candy, chocolates etc. If you could stop the urge to eat sugar-rich foods, it’s very much possible to minimize the risk of dental problems such as decay. Fluoride is important for health teeth. Its regular presence is key to maintaining your dental health. For that reason, dentists often recommend using a toothpaste rich in fluoride or using other supplements for the same. The water you use should also be rich in this mineral so that the risks of tooth decay can be prevented.
