You will gain experience recognizing and treating febrile convulsions, fractured bones, sprains and strains, asthma attacks and other common childhood illnesses and injuries such as head injuries, burns, poisonings or choking incidents.

    This section of the course is delivered online so that you can learn at your own pace without feeling pressured to complete everything all at once. It includes high quality eLearning tools, test yourself questions and interactive videos designed to support learning.


    The eLearning component of the course prepares you for face to face classroom training day, building confidence before stepping foot inside a classroom setting. Experienced and qualified instructors will lead these training days and will teach essential first aid skills necessary for dealing with first aid emergencies involving children.

    Assessment

    Paediatric first aid is a specialised form of first aid that is designed to be used on infants and children. It’s important for anyone who works in a childcare setting, and all parents of young children, to be able to respond effectively to an emergency situation should one arise. The course will cover the key responsibilities of a first aider, how to assess an emergency situation, and what steps you should follow in order to deal with different conditions that could arise. It will also explore the importance of the '3 Ps'; preserve life, prevent further harm and promote recovery.

    The practical portion of the training will look at how to carry out the primary survey on a casualty, and it will also cover how to put an unconscious child or infant into the recovery position. It will also explore what to include in a paediatric first aid kit, and the role of a defibrillator.
