Years and years, over and over again, we have effectively ignored our oral health. We kept ignoring our oral health without even realizing that poor oral hygiene is slowly depleting the internal health of a person. NO! by health I don't' mean your dental health, not just dental health, there are much more side effects of it other than the evident ones.
People, probably all those who have 'at least' once visited a dentist are aware of only the recurrent health problems like gum bleeding, tooth decaying, gingivitis and all the other stuff. But, there are much more behind the curtain which is yet to be raised. Ask those who have spent more time visiting the dentist than visiting the church, what kind of health problems that they have suffered due to poor hygiene.
The various reputed organization has proved that poor dental hygiene can lead to heart attack in most cases. Due to poor oral hygiene, the bacteria and plaque enter the main bloodstream through the gums result in narrowing the arterial tubes. Moreover, people suffering from the periodontal disease are more likely to suffer from heart disease, and the rate is twice the normal rate. Why does this happen? The bacteria and plaque entering the bloodstream through the mouth contain clot promoting agent which damages the artery tubes by clotting them. A heart attack is directly associated with the clotting of arteries, and with increasing clotting the risk of heart attack increases.
Alzheimer's or memory loss, as we might not be aware of, tooth loss due to poor oral health is one of the major factor contributing to it. Bad tooth or inflammation in the gum causes the release of a substance in the blood stream that infects the neural part of the brain and kills it most of the times. This results in the loss of memory due to the crashing of the neurological system of the brain. An early stage of Alzheimer's can be a side effect of bad dental hygiene.
Diabetes is one of the most evident health problems caused by a bad dental hygiene. And, taking a glance at the statistics, 95% of all US people suffering from diabetes suffer from periodontal disease simultaneously. Moreover, the people who fall under this 95%, the one-third of them are suffering from a more advanced disease which has led to the loss of teeth in them. Also, if someone is already suffering from a periodontal disease, they may not be able to control their sugar. More the number of oral health problems increases, the risk of heart attack increases.
According to the Journal of Periodontology, the gum disease can be the major contributor of towards respiratory problems. The bacteria and plaque that get inside into our bloodstream can reach your lungs and cause infection. Major health problems like Pneumonia and lung infection can be due to a bad oral hygiene.
