Be aware of how many nutrients are lost in the processing of your food. A whole-grain wheat bread is a much better choice than a multi-grain processed bread, for example. Even items that seem to be high in good foods, such as a bowl of vegetable soup, are not as healthy as an unprocessed counterpart. You want to gain the greatest nutritional value from your food. Fresh vegetables are high on your list. What a loss if you throw away these nutrients through overcooking! When you immerse vegetables in water, much of the nutrients are leached out as they cook and are thrown away in the water. Avoid this by using a steamer and cooking vegetables lightly. If you are used to having sandwiches and you just cannot imagine your life without them there is an easy solution that is much lower in fat and calories. You can split a whole wheat pita in half and make your sandwich on that instead of eating white bread. If you're pregnant, make sure you limit the amount of caffeine you ingest. You shouldn't drink more than two cups of coffee a day while you're pregnant. Too much caffeine can lead to you either having a miscarriage or the baby being underweight when it's born, so it's important to limit the amount you take in. If you are traveling to a high-altitude destination, don't take medication that might mask the effects of altitude sickness. Instead, drink plenty of water to mitigate the symptoms. Masking them might mean you don't realize the danger until it's already too late; it's better to just deal with afib treatment that headache for a few hours instead. It is important that everyone consumes the appropriate amount of each nutrient the body needs to perform every day. Eating healthy foods is important, but making sure that you intake enough vitamins, minerals, sodium, and carbohydrates, amongst other nutrients, is vital to maintaining good health. Also make sure you don't consume too much of any certain nutrient.
