Zoot suits are a product of speakeasy Harlem in the 1930s. Harlem was a musical melting pot in those days, and it was one of New York City’s prized possessions. Musicians, writers, actors, business people, and just plan zoot suit-wearing dudes gave Harlem a reputation for being the best place to eat, drink and dance in the city. Mens zoot suits are products of black history. Those black musicians in the 1930s knew a thing or two about fashion. The music dudes put this wide-leg, high-waisted, pegged trousers, tight-cuffed, and a long coat look together to rock. The zoot coat has wide lapels and wide padded shoulders. That coat gave those old rockers a hit of 1930s gangster style.
It didn’t take long for mens zoot suits to spread to Detroit and Chicago. Los Angeles was next, but some sailors and Mexicans got into a major league battle because some Mexican zoot suit wearers attacked two sailors. That incident became a riot when more than 200 sailors came back to give the zoot suit boys a dose of Uncle Sam’s fighting might. And things got worse before they got better. Men in zoot suits were fair game for thousands of sailors on a mission to bring down a gang of Mexican zoot suit wearers. Today, mens zoot suits are not just for blacks and other ethnic groups. Men across America, and in nations around the world, wear some version of a zoot suit.
The people who visit the MensItaly website like to look at the zoot suit color choices as well as the accessories that give zoot suits a personal touch. Purple, yellow, pink, and green zoot suits are modern badass threads because these colorful suits have better pattern cuts than the old suits. Men are able to show what they have in modern zoot suits. Men in the 1940s and every decade after that put some kind of personal touch on their suit, and those touches are now accessories or new shirt colors and styles. Zoot suits keep evolving, and more men are wearing them to show they know badass threads when they see them.
