It is every parent’s dream and wish to keep their children healthy and happy. As the year comes to a close and a new one is just about to start, we can’t help but think of ways by which we can ensure that our boys and girls stay healthy. Here, we suggest six things you can do to achieve the goal of keeping your children healthy and happy: i. Set a rule on nap time Does your kids like staying late into the night watching TV or playing video games? If yes, you need to change that. Sleep is very important for every member of your family and more so for your kids. It is during sleep time that their bodies will be able to reset moods, relax and cleanse. Moreover, nap time is important for kids because it is during this time that they grow. If your children are giving you a hard time when it comes for bed, just assure them that they will grow well when they sleep in good time, this will automatically see them trooping to their bedrooms. ii. Emphasize the need for healthy eating habits As a parent, you can only regulate what your kids eat at home. You have to be alive to the fact that these kids will pick things in school and eat junk in birthday parties. Don’t be overly strict on them. Let them interact with the real world as long as you ensure that they take the recommended diet when they are home. Make food fun by throwing in some treats maybe in a weekend or in any random day of your choice. iii. Treat them when they hurt themselves When your child runs to you with a scratch, burn or cut, carefully inspect and dress the wound. If the injury is something that you can handle at home without involving a visit to the pediatrician's office, just make sure that it is dressed in a proper way to keep away infections. If the cut is deep and you suspect that it might be infected or in a case where the bone is exposed, you should take him to see a doctor. If it is found that the child is at risk of developing a musculoskeletal infection, the doctor might recommend prp stem cell therapy to help deal with your child's condition. iv. Design exercise to be fun Exercise is essential for every member of the family. A good exercise routine can help to improve bone and muscle health, alleviate stress, create positive emotions and prevent diseases later on in life. It is important to ensure that your kids exercise for about an hour each day. If your child has been diagnosed with conditions such as ADHD, ADD or OCD, you can enroll them to a training program that aims at training their attention systems. v. Encourage them to hydrate often Up to 60% of our bodies comprises of water. Your child’s brain is 80% water. These statistics show how crucial it is to stay hydrated. Your little ones need to stay hydrated for proper growth and bodily functions. Train them to take fluids more often so that they can stay hydrated. Remind them to inspect their pee each time they go to the bathroom and if it is yellow, they should take a glass of water so that their pee can be as clear as water. vi. Regulate their sugar intake Most children have sweet-tooth. You need to regulate the amount of sugar they take in their meals. You also need to know the type of sugars that you should keep away from altogether. Too much sugar in your kid's diet can bind antibodies needed to fight pathogens and therefore lower your child’s immunity. vii. Keep your indoor air clean, fresh and circulating Clean air in our living spaces is essential because of the effect it has on our cognitive abilities and mood. Open your windows, use fans and vents and have some indoor plants. All these will ensure that your children get to enjoy clean air.
