During a trip to Tenebrae, Regis and Noctis-that is recuperating from the near-death experience-are targeted for assassination by Niflheim. While Nyx succeeds in rescuing Lunafreya, most of the Kingsglaive switch on him; all but Nyx, Lunafreya and rebel leader Lazarus perish within the ensuing battle. In the treaty-signing ceremony, the Niflheim delegation springs an unexpected attack and kills the ruling council, while operatives inside the city enable the imperial army to get in by destroying the city's protective barrier with assistance from the rebels. Lunafreya and Nyx get to the Citadel equally as Regis is battling Glauca. Throughout the fight, Glauca cuts the Ring from the Lucii from Regis's hand.
