IBM ThinkPad X60s Battery |

The notebook has both Bluetooth and infrared built in and both works fine. The Bluetooth manager is easy to use and gave me no problems.Battery Overall I am very satisfied with this notebook. I can easily have 15+ programs and 40+ windows open without any lag in performance, and furthermore, it is possible to play new games on medium setting while a virus scanner is running in the background. My only problem with the notebook is the CPU fan, which never stops. Personally I’m annoyed with the noise when sitting in a quiet room or at small meetings. However, this is quite subjective and co-workers of mine are not annoyed by the noise. I would definitely recommend this notebook to others, who need a cutting-edge notebook with an elegant design. Furthermore, it’s possible to use it for both work and entertainment. The price is in the higher segment, which means that the target group is mainly professionals who need a notebook with both high performance and high mobility. All in all, Asus made a real good notebook with the V6J, which I’ll definitely use for the next couple of years. My previous workhorse notebook was a Dell Inspiron 8200. Note the word “was.” The notebook finally kicked the bucket two weeks ago. This was both a curse and a blessing. I regularly dragged my Dell Monday through Friday to and from work for presentations. The Dell decided to ascend to the puffy clouds over the weekend and of course on a Sunday. Good grief.Luckily I had been browsing Notebookreview’s Asus forum for about three months. I narrowed down my choices to the W3J+ and the W7J. Ultimately, I chose the WJ7 because of its portability. I was really getting tired lugging around the old Dell, which weighed in at a hefty 8.0 lbs. With the AC adapter and other miscellaneous accessories, the weight quickly exceeded 14 lbs. Also, the fact that the W7J had discrete graphics was icing on the cake. The W7J incorporates a 13.3″ WXGA LCD screen with a native resolution of 1280 x 800. It has Color Shine (Glare Type) and Crystal Bright (High Brightness) technologies.Coming from a traditional 15.1″ screen, I was somewhat worried the 13.3″ screen would be too small. After two weeks of typing reports, I have found the screen to be first-class. Brightness of the screen is quite good; I consistently run the screen at seventy percent brightness. Text is sharp and clear.New to the model is V-Cut screen technology. In a nutshell, V-Cut utilizes prisms to decrease weight, increase screen brightness, and lower power consumption. Sounds fabulous, but it is not without side effects. I noticed the bottom left and right corners of the LCD is slightly darker then the rest of the screen. The speakers are as good as can be expected from a notebook of this size. They are adequate, but at maximum volume they do become tinny while not producing a whole lot of sound. Sound quality is much better with external speakers or headphones, and I do recommend that if you plan on listening to a lot of music or something that you do invest in headphones or speakers. The 1000H, like nearly every netbook on the market, comes with an Intel Atom N270, clocked at 1.6GHz. It has Speedstep functionality to reduce the clock speed and increase battery life, and can be set to run at half-speed on battery power and full-speed on AC power. It is extremely fast for a mini-notebook, taking 23-25 seconds to get to the logon screen from boot. The hard drive is a standard laptop model; 2.5” and 5400RPM. The 1000H ships with 1GB of RAM, but can be expanded to 2GB. ASUS does allow modification of the RAM and hard drive under warranty. Actual modification is made quite simple – just remove the back panel and you have instant access to the DIMM slot as well as the hard drive. If you come in with reasonable expectations, the 1000H will do what you need quite snappily. So far, all I’ve done with it is web browsing, typing this review, importing a few pictures, and watching some TV shows online at Hulu. It performed all of these tasks very well, and I was especially impressed by the smoothness of the online TV stream. As this only comes with a GMA950, games are pretty much out of the question. You can play flash games and basic emulators, but I would not push it with 3D-accelerated games. The Asus V6J notebook has several output/input ports which is expected on a 15” “thin and light”. The required ones are all there, but in my opinion it is missing DVI output and some people would probably miss the non-existent PCMIA slot. Instead of the PCMIA port Asus has equipped the notebook with an Express Card slot. Furthermore, the notebook only has support for IDE ultraDMA 100 HDs, where the majority of competing core duo notebooks have S-ATA support.
All ports are placed on either the right and left hand side since the battery takes up the backside of the notebook. This means, that the four USB ports and a couple of other ports are placed on the right hand side, which can make using an external mouse a bit difficult when several of the ports are used. The wireless network works fine and has good signal strength. Sometimes the wireless stops working for no reason and must be reactivated in order to start work again. According to several forums this is a problem on the V6 series notebooks, where the solution is to activate both Bluetooth and wireless. However, I can not confirm if that works or if the Wifi problems I’m having is due to wrong drivers or the like on my side. Furthermore, the Intel wireless manager didn’t work when installing the system (tried twice), but if all Intel drivers are removed and reinstalled it works without a flaw. Quality of the camera is reasonably nice for a 1.3 mega-pixel. The camera works well with MSN Messenger and Skype. Asus includes a security utility unimaginatively named Asus Video Security. This program allows a user to configure the camera to take pictures of would be vandals scoping out your new toy.The speakers on my old Dell 8200 were nothing to brag about, neither are the ones on the W7J. The speakers are mounted in front just underneath the screen. Volume is sufficient and does not get distorted when you turn it up. However, don’t expect earth shattering bass. I am thrilled by this little netbook, and based on its specs, price, and reading various reviews of other netbooks on the web, I would go as far as saying that the 1000H might be the best netbook on the market. It offers nearly every feature found on similar netbooks, but takes it a step further with a 1” larger screen, as well as Bluetooth and wireless-N. The build quality is also fantastic, and upgradability is made simple with the removable back panel offering easy access. The Eee PC 1000H is an excellent combination of performance and size, wrapped up in a usable 10” screen and a $450 price tag. I unconditionally recommend it to anyone in the market for a netbook, as I believe it to be the best one available.Asus has achieved much success in the ChromeOS market with their highly portable Chromebox desktop PC, but the Asus C200M and its 13-inch cousin the C300M represent their first Chromebooks on the market. As the company enters the fray with its own 11-inch, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB SSD, and Celeron processor-equipped model, can the Asus C200M stand out from the crowd of similarly-specced Chromebooks? Read on to find out. Asus’s first foray into portable ChromeOS devices is impressive to look at and hold. While it is a tiny bit thicker than the Acer C720 at 0.8 inches versus 0.75, the Asus C200M is lighter than any other 11-inch Chromebook we’ve reviewed up until now, at 2.5 lbs versus the Acer’s 2.76 lbs or Dell’s 2.9 lbs. This is due in part to the Asus C200M lacking a fan, thanks to its low-power Bay Trail processor. Overall the computer is well-balanced and easy to hold even in one hand.
Rather than using executable applications, Chromebooks utilize the Chrome Web Store, which features many different web-based applications and extensions for the Chrome browser. From Google Docs to Hangouts, the programs available still allow for good productivity on one of these machines. Though they won’t be able to replace a dedicated PC for heavy-duty graphics or modeling work, or be able to do programming or design, a Chromebook makes a great portable secondary computer, or for those who don’t need to do the above tasks, even a primary one. There is no shortage of netbooks (ultraportable budget laptops) on the market, but the new ASUS Eee PC 1008HA “Seashell” might prove to be one of the best netbooks yet. With a new thin and light design and long life battery the 1008HE Seashell has a lot to offer for a modest price. Keep reading to find out more about this little laptop. The Eee PC 1008HA Seashell features a completely new design for the ASUS Eee PC family of netbooks. Like the name implies, the chassis shape is inspired by the curves of a seashell. The clamshell-like design gives the 1008HA a very clean and distinct appearance. Every port from Ethernet to USB is covered with plastic doors which are probably more decorative than they are protective. ASUS claims this version of the Eee PC is just one inch thick at its thickest point, but that doesn’t include the feet on the bottom of the netbook. We measured the maximum thickness at more than one inch, but the 1008HA is still remarkably thin and light. Once again, ASUS managed to impress our editors with their attention to build quality in the Eee PC line of netbooks. The glossy black plastics suffer from very little flex and the keyboard is as firm as even the best business-class notebooks on the market. The various parts of the chassis come together with tight seams and good attention to detail. ASUS claims that the plastics used on Eee PC 1008HA are coated with an “Infusion finish” that makes the netbook scratch resistant. I wasn’t able to produce any scratches in the plastics during the testing period, but the glossy surface is extremely prone to fingerprint smudges which make this brand new netbook look a little dirty after just a few minutes of use. The 1008HA is also available in white, blue, and pink … in case black isn’t your color of choice.
