PLC Applications in Industry - IPCS Automation |

What is PLC ? A PLC, or Programmable Logic Controller, is a specific computer device used in industrial control systems. They're employed in a variety of industries, including oil refineries, manufacturing lines, and conveyor systems. The PLC provides a flexible technique to "software" the components together whenever there is a requirement to control devices. The simplest units are equipped with a CPU (computer processor) that is dedicated to running a single software that monitors a series of different inputs and logically manipulates the outputs to achieve the required control. They're designed to be extremely flexible in terms of programming while also offering great dependability (no programme crashes or mechanical failures), compactness, and cost savings over traditional control systems. An Easy Example Consider anything as basic as turning on a light switch. The light would turn on or off with a flip of the switch under this method. However, there is no further control after that. If your boss came up to you and said, "I want that light to turn on thirty seconds after the switch is flipped," you'd have to buy a timer and rewire the lamp. So, for any small modification, it's a matter of time, labour, and money. A PLC comes to the rescue. Consider the same contraption as before, but this time with a PLC in the middle. The light is controlled by a PLC output and the switch is sent into the PLC as an input. It's simple to add a delay to this system because all that has to be altered is the PLC software to use a delay timer. This is a simple example, but in a bigger system with many switches and lights (as well as a variety of other devices) all interacting with one another, flexibility is not just desirable but essential. Over your head, hopefully, a light bulb has now turned on.
