Getting a seat in a medical college to pursue MBBS in Tamil Nadu is a dream of many students in the state. Every year many students apply for the MBBS admission in the state and its affiliated colleges. The Tamil Nadu MBBS Admissions are based on the National Eligibility Entrance Examination (NEET-UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year.
In order to avail of MBBS Admissions in Tamil Nadu, the candidates have to meet certain criteria. They need to be domicile of Tamil Nadu and hold a valid NEET UG score. The domicile of the candidate must be a minimum of 5 years, if not the candidate’s parents must own a property in the state for that period.
The total number of MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu is determined by the Government of India, the Medical Council of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education, the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, and the state-level Director of Medical Education. The majority of the MBBS Seats in Tamil Nadu are offered by 22 Government colleges and 11 Private Medical Colleges.
The majority of the MBBS Undergraduate Seats in the Government Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu are offered on the basis of Merit Scores or Rank achieved in the NEET-UG Result. It is to be noted that Private Medical Colleges are self-financed and considered as less prestigious than the Government Colleges. The admission process of Private Medical Colleges takes longer than the Government Medical Colleges.
To be eligible to apply for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu
The students must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects.
The students must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the 10+2 examination.
The students must also have completed the age of 17 years on or before the 31st of December of the year of admission.
The students must also have cleared the NEET entrance examination with a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate.
