There are a range of smaller technicalities that help create the injection mold tooling design.
- Robust tool design: To get the print and design of your liking, make sure you follow through and get the DFM (design for manufacturing) support. Our previous prototype injection mold tooling designs caused an issue where the halves of the apparatus were not thoroughly aligned, causing a deflection that can severely damage your injection molding. Making sure your tool not only clamps shut, but also looks as if it’s parallel to itself in regard to size, is essential to make sure your product works soundly.
- Suitable injection mold venting: Like anything that sizzle’s, vents are absolutely vital when it comes to letting off steam and releasing the gases appropriately. In some of our early stages of the prototype injection mold tooling, we discovered that if the gas is not vented correctly, the final product is riddled with burn marks which then causes issues with the injection molding cooling.
- Injection molding cooling: Just like it’s opposite counterpart, the cooling process of injection mold tooling is tedious and time consuming. It’s slower than easily 75% of cycle times, which is why creating the perfect cooling design is vital for injection molding. With years of research, we have recently discovered a new approach to conformal cooling, where the cooling channels almost identically match the shape of the apparatus being produced. The initial tooling costs for this specific cooling are relatively higher, but the savings of cycle times and efficiency makes it all worth your while.
- Sprue selection-: A sprue is the piece of the mold prototype tooling suppliers attach to the nozzle that then delivers melted, moldable material. From A through E, the individual letters offer a slight variation of its sprue counterparts. In order to select the correct sprue, you have to know what or how much resin is being used, what injection mold tooling machine you have, and how much pressure is needed.
- Gate number and location: The gate alone takes the liquified resin into the cavity, which is then followed by an injection through the spue and follows up having traveled through the mold runner. Gates are important to this process in order to ensure the cavity has appropriate flow and precise filling. |
