A hydraulic accumulator is a type of an energy storage machine that uses an external source to detain under pressure a non-compressible hydraulic fluid which force is deployed when needed most. Heavy duty operations such as docking systems and dams use accumulators to quickly aid a temporary force demand when regular pumps could not cope up. Hydraulic accumulators are also used to minimize shocks that could bring damage to a system due to extreme mechanical forces.
