Throwing a dinner party need not be stressful. It's nothing that loads of booze, great company, and some delicious cured meat can't handle. Indeed, a platter of cured meats is always a welcome sight on any festive board. Cured meats are a great timesaver, too, since there are barely five simple steps to making them - meat, spice, fat, salt, and time.
Cooking with Salt and Time Nowadays, we call this process "curing" when parts of the animal that is chopped up is bathed in a mixture of salt and spices and is an integral part of the charcuterie family- a family made up of sausages, ham, bacon, terrines, pate and other delightful, fatty ways of preservation. Some people even cure meat using sugar and mixing with other spices to make it even more delectable. Although it takes only five simple ingredients, the art of curing meat properly takes years to master. We'll help you set up a delicious cured meat platter made easy for your up and coming dinner party to make it memorable with pickles and a cheeseboard. The Cocktail Party Platter Your cured meat platter needn't be expensive to make but you should be aware that you must have some sliced baguette or crostini on hand, a cheeseboard , pickles, and an assortment of dips and sauces to make it complete. Wines, beers, or other alcoholic beverage should never be missing, too. The alcohol will serve to neutralize the taste of the cured meat. Now to kick-start your dinner party, you could have an assortment of breads that are easy to manage such as whole-wheat slices of loaf bread, a selection of Italian breads such as crostinis, paninis or ciabattas. You should also have fruits such as grapes, apple bits, orange wedges, or whatever you fancy. There should be pickles, a cheeseboard made up of cheddar cheese slices, soft cheeses such as brie that are bite sized and cured meats like jamon Serrano from Spain (ham), a few tapas, the Italian prosciutto (boneless thigh that is salted) or the Italian bacon called pancetta (air dried but not too salty). Just a note, though. You need to learn about alcohol flush reaction symptoms first before you start serving your drinks and food. Why is that? Well, someone in the party may have the tendency of getting red-faced after consuming too much alcohol. That flushing of the face could be a sign that the body isn't metabolizing the alcohol properly and that could lead to worse medical conditions. Learning about the symptoms is important so that when a guest gets the alcohol red face, you know what to do. It's not something you should beat yourself up for, because alcohol flush is a common occurrence especially with Asians. That's the reason why it's also referred to as Asian flush. It's in the Asians' DNA, but of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything about it. Symptoms to watch out for include:
A pill may be taken to alleviate the symptoms, so you'd do well to search for that pill online. When all's set, it's time to enjoy your dinner party with some great food and even greater company.
