As a business, a good way to find and keep great employees is to offer a good range of benefits. Often, the best employees value themselves and their work very highly, and rightly so, so don’t settle for the bare minimum. As well as competitive pay, a good holiday allowance and all the usual benefits, going that extra step can really help you attract great talent as a business. So, incorporate some of these benefits and it could transform your business!
Good Healthcare
Offering your employees good health care is a really important benefit. Not just doing the bare minimum, but going above and beyond to look after your employees and your health is free. Outside of the UK, this would include good health insurance (you could also provide private insurance if you're in the UK), along with coverage at dentists in Wakefield, Wolverhampton or wherever you’re based. You could also go above and beyond to show your employees you care with things like gym memberships and well-being contributions. Helping employees with their mental health is also important, as is, having things like a pathway to speak to therapists, creating a supportive environment and ensuring that you have regular check-ins with your team.
Flexible Working
Another important benefit you should be offering employees is flexibility. Gone are the days when most companies worked 5 days a week in the office, and providing flexible working will make very little difference to you but it could make your employees' lives a lot easier and more comfortable, which will encourage them to stay. Offering the chance to work from home a couple of days a week is really helpful, so you should also offer flexi-time.
This involves having a core set of hours in the day where everyone needs to work, such as 10 am to 3 pm, so that any internal communications and meetings can happen during that block. Then, people can work the rest of their hours on either side of that block to help with their out-of-work commitments. For example, someone might want to work from 7 am to 3 pm instead of 9 am to 5 pm, as they can then be finished in time to collect their kids after school. Someone might have quite a long commute, so starting an hour later to miss rush hour and finishing an hour later at the end of the day for the same reason can make a huge difference. This is all just about being flexible and making life easier for your employees.
Good Pension Contributions
Lastly, you should make good pension contributions for your employees. In the UK, employers have to contribute 3% to their employee's pension, although you can contribute more. We’d recommend that you encourage employees to contribute at least 5%, and then you match it. You can go above and beyond this if it’s possible to do so, but this will help with the financial future of your employees, which is a cause for concern for many people. This can make a big difference so it’s worth going above and beyond when it comes to pensions.
