Imtiaz himself jokingly calls herself a Scottish Muslim Calvinist, she grew up in Glasgow in a family of emigrants from Pakistan (Lahore), currently working in Bombay. Imtiaz is a poet, an artist and director of documentary films. His poetic collections - Purdah, Postcardsfromgod, I speakforthedhedevil and Theterroristatmytable, she illustrates herself. Imtiaz lives in two cities - in Mumbai and London. The main themes of Imtiaz Dharker's poetry are home, freedom, travel, geographical and cultural displacement, conflict within the society and gender policy. All books of the author were published by the publishing house Bladex Books. In her poems, the poetess touches on various aspects of the life of a Muslim woman who, in her opinion, experiences injustice, oppression and violence, fueled by the tradition of wearing a veil, niqab, veils. Imtiaz Dharker is also a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and director of more than 100 films and audio-visual projects dedicated to education, reproductive health and social assistance for women and children. In 1980, her short film won the Silver Lotus Award. To date, in India, China (Hong Kong), the United States, Britain and France, ten personal exhibitions of her drawings with pen and ink were held.
