While I was Christmas shopping today, I found a beautiful book titled~ A Dress for Diana. Memories from my high school years! I could have used this book when I wrote my report for a School Event Competition. Six students were chosen to enter and compete in different categories, mine was to write a report on Apparel & Accessories Marketing. I chose to write a report on Bridal Boutiques and included information on Princess Diana’s “Cinderella dress”. The rest of the data was collected by interviewing Jeneane the owner of Gowns by Jeneane in Lowell Ma .This was where all my cousins and sisters bought their wedding gowns including myself. The Royal Wedding ~ July 29, 1981 Over 800 million people around the world watched this wedding on television, from the comfort of their home. The royal wedding dress~ designed by David Emanuel & Elizabeth Emanuel : Layers of silk, antique lace, pearls, sequins, and a 25-foot train. In the interview we discussed the process of running a bridal boutique, expenses such as rental space, utilities, advertising, hiring, hours of operation, wedding gowns just to name a few. Once our reports were complete, the School sent them to the Contest officials , they would read the reports and choose the best to go on to compete for the State. The State Competitions were to be held in Cape Cod Ma. The bus would depart on a Friday and return Sunday. For this reason my parents were refusing to let me compete. I remember a High School teacher had to visit my parents and persuade them to let me attend the competition. The competitions were rated in two areas a written exam , and oral questions, I sat in a room with four judges , they would ask questions about my report, my job was to look them in the eye, answer their questions, and not let them see me sweat. I took 3rd place and received a trophy. The top three winners in each category would go to Nationals which was in California or Washington. Knowing that my parents would never agree to let me compete again, no matter how many teachers visited the house, I gave my report to a classmate To make this story short her report came in 3rd place, Gloria kept that trophy, the School kept the report. I have the memories, the experience, and till this day I still have the trophy. A Dress For Diana ~ Harper Design www.harpercollins.com Thank you
