The same way saltwater rusts cars, it rusts outdrives and can seriously damage the gears in outdrives and shorten their lifespan. It's not the salt in saltwater that is the main corrosive culprit; it's the chlorides that are dissolved when a high-salt content sea salt is used for water softening. The present invention provides a method to protect outdrives in saltwater from marine environments by employing sacrificial anodes. The outdrives will take maximum electrical current until the sacrificial anode exhausts.
