After a career with IBM followed by running my own Management Consultancy company, I set up Gone Wild Pty Ltd in Australia in 2002 with businesses in the travel, tourism & leisure industry.
Dunk Jet Sports ran jet ski tours around Dunk Island off the Queensland coast. We also had an Information Station/Internet Cafe and a bar/restaurant in Mission Beach, all of which we have sold.
traveljunkies is the trading name of our Internet business and began in 2002 as a newsletter (an early-day blog) for scuba divers and skydivers in Australia. It has since grown to include all aspects of tourism worldwide and has a client base of over 3,000 mainly small businesses.
In 2006 we redesigned http://www.traveljunkies.com to include a search engine and we now run traveljunkies from my home in the UK and our daughter's home in Australia.
Having spent most of my working life in a commercial world, it's exciting to see how the rest of the business world functions and how big corporations are learning lessons and adapting to the modern way of doing business.
I'm a keen supporter and advocate of LinkedIn but would stress the importance of casting one's net wider into the world of Facebook, Twitter, Blogging etc. because these are the ways tomorrow's leaders are growing up.
My experience in marketing and running businesses together with my daughter's experience in managing businesses day-to-day, as well as her time as a backpacker, skydiver and a few other things, gives us a good understanding of what our customers want and how to provide it.

My affiliations, achievements and awards aren't really relevant to today's business. They'd seem rather boring.
