How I Got Started | When I started taking NLP from NLP Marin I had no idea what an adventure I was in for. Many years before moving to San Francisco I had been advised to take NLP because it was similar to what I was already doing in business (organizational systems strategy also referred to as culture change) and it would be an added tool in my culture change toolbox. Although I had already developed and was using a one-day business culture change template I was completely unaware of how much taking NLP would turn my world or what I knew of my world upside down.
Within the first three month of working Carl Buchheit and Michelle Masters I knew that I wanted to continue learning from them. That what I was learning was not just NLP and what they knew that worked in the field of human change but that I was learning was a true expression of myself.
Well before I finished becoming a master practitioner in NLP Marin's yearlong training program I had started seeing clients. After I completed the training I started a practice and within the first year I was referred a client that clearly had undiagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD).
Most of my clients up until that point had come to me for things like smoking cessation, fear of failure, anxiety, or motivation/procrastination work. This work is not nearly as challenging as this PTSD case presented.
The client suspected that she had been victimized as a child many times over many years with not a single memory before the age of 16. And, while we were on the phone making her first appointment I immediately recognized her suffering and had to do work with her over the phone so she could just get into her car. Her PTSD had transgressed to the safety (or lack there of) she felt driving to a new place even though the original events never involved a car or driving.
When she actually arrived at my office the next day she had just enough time to hand me her printed lists before she launched into one flashback after another. This lasted until I could bring her out her flashbacks almost as quickly as she was triggered into them. They were deeply physical (her hands would splay, her body would go limp, her jaw would open wide, and her eyes would roll back into her head.) and she acted out using different voices, screams, and sobs. What I realized quickly was, these were memories being played out in front of me. I could talk to her memories and ask questions that I could use to help her make the changes she wanted and needed.
Because with PTSD (in comparison to say motivation/procrastination work) there are so many pieces of the puzzle, it often takes more than one session to get all the pieces. But after about 3 or 4 sessions I have found that my PTSD clients' brains are doing the work themselves. Every once in while they need a little help with something but that something is fairly trivial from what they were originally experiencing.
Since my first PTSD client I have had many sexual, physical, and verbal abuse (including hazing) victims. I've had families and witnesses of murder, war survivors, natural disaster survivors and people who have survived other tragedies and unspeakable acts. The one common result I've been able to offer my cleints is relief whether I work with them online or face-to-face. |

Favorite Part Of The Business | My favorite part of the business is that I get to see the changes of a person's physiology and life view change in front of me... I get to see their face change and get younger. |
|
Customer Can Expect | A customer can expect that it will be the easiest most comfortable conversation they have ever had. And, they will experience many emotions in their time with me including feeling unsafe and safe and supported at the same time. Most likely they won't remember the full session but will feel tremendous relief and a weight removed. And that they can bring any issue they want to work on - even wanting a million dollars and by the end of the session they will have a clear path of what they need to do to have what they want and have the resources to do it... Hint: a million dollars is never about the million dollars it is about the experience it presents. |

What Sets Us Apart | There is a lot of NLP out there and a lot of NLP training available. What I focus on is making you feel comfortable in your skin from the start so that the change you want is just part of a simple conversation. I will work with you until your issue if resolved and am willing to hold your hand to that resolution even if a single session takes 5 hours to do so. |
