Formative assessment has been established as one of the mainstay classroom strategies for enhancing student learning. Unlike summative assessment, which is typically given at the end of a lesson unit or year (for example, with a final exam or course grade), formative assessment is used throughout a lesson to help educators adjust their instruction to meet student needs.
